Roger Averbeck

Roger Averbeck joined the JBTC Board in June 2026. Raised near the nation's first rail trail (Wisconsin’s historic Sparta-Elroy Trail), Roger developed a lifelong passion for active transportation and safe regional trail connections. He holds a degree in Geography from the University of Montana and studied active transportation planning and design at Portland State University. Roger spent a decade serving on the City of Portland’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Citizen Advisory Committees and brings a diverse professional background as a wildland firefighter, Wallowa Mountains ski guide, avalanche safety instructor, and small business owner. He currently lives near Joseph, Oregon, where he supports local non-profits through photography and video services.
